SoftQuad Inc., of Toronto, is a young, growing software com- 
pany with opportunities for advancement and an exciting work 
environment.  We develop publishing software based  on  (but 
not  limited  to)  a  substantially-rewritten   version   of 
device-independent troff. 
 
SoftQuad is looking for people  to  assist  in  testing  and 
validating our software.   Although  these  people  will  be 
working in a  technical  environment,  no  formal  technical 
qualifications are required.  In fact, these aren't jobs for 
programmers! 
 
General Qualifications: 
 
No specific education or work  experience  required.   Posi- 
tions require some acquaintance with the  UNIX  environment. 
A knowledge of nroff/troff is desirable. 
 
We need people with a good general education  or  experience 
in the world of work.  Clerical or secretarial experience is 
an asset.  Ideal for someone looking for a career change, or 
a recent university graduate. 
 
The most important qualities needed are: intelligence; flex- 
ibility; a meticulous nature; the ability to take  responsi- 
bility and a desire to  work  in  a  technical  environment. 
Good organizational skills are a must, as a  large  part  of 
this work involves record-keeping and checking. 
 
Our environment is often chaotic and fast-moving, but condu- 
cive to career growth and job satisfaction. 
 
The Positions: 
 
Porting Validation Assistant  -  Responsible  for validating 
        our software to ensure that it works correctly on  a 
        variety of computers. 
 
Software Validation Assistant (Modification Control)  - 
        Maintains  database of  software  modifications  and 
        enhancements, and  participates  in  evaluating  and 
        isolating possible bugs.  Good oral and written com- 
        munication  skills  are  essential.   Knowledge   of 
        nroff/troff highly desirable. 
 
SoftWare Validation Assistant (Baseline Testing) - Tests all 
        modifications to software.   Writes  new  tests  and 
        incorporates  them  into  the  product  test  suite. 
        Maintains and updates product  baseline.   Knowledge 
        of nroff/troff highly desirable.
