Canstar Communications currently has two open software positions.
The company is bringing to market a high speed (100Mbits/sec), fibre
optic, local area network. Initially, the network will support a variety
of UNIX hosts (VAXes, SUNS, VME based hosts, Multibus based hosts,
and the like).
Although we require one person with the following skills/experience,
we encourage individuals to apply if they have other experience that
may be relevant. I.e the list is approximate:
Minimum B.Sc (in Computer Science preferably)
Minimum of 2 years C experience.
Systems exposure (Real time kernel or (better) UNIX
internals for about 1 year).
User of UNIX for at least 1 year.
Very helpful experience:
TCP/IP
UNIX drivers/internals
High level networking
The work involves developing software for various networking
layers (levels 2 to 5).
We also require one person with the following skill/experience:
Minimum B.Sc (in Computer Science preferably)
Minimum of 2 years C experience.
User of UNIX for at least 1 year.
Networking knowledge helpful.
This position involves developing network diagnostics and monitoring
software.
Canstar is located in sunny, downtown Scarborough (part of Metro Toronto).
The development environment at Canstar is UNIX based. We have uVAXes,
PDP's, AT's and a variety of other UNIX machines. Internally, major machines
are on Ethernet (hopefully soon to be augmented (!)). The company is UNIX
source licensed (4.3BSD).
The project offers a wide range of opportunities for technical
development. The current size of the software group is 4.
