lindas@maccs.UUCP (Lindas Stanway) (03/11/87)
I am looking for employment in the software development field. I have
just completed my M.Sc. in Computation at McMaster University.
Previous academic qualifications include an M.Sc. in Zoology from
the University of Toronto.
I have programmed extensively in C and Pascal using the UNIX operating
system. My coursework included a mini graphics project investigating two
methods of hidden surface removal as well as a mini database project
using a relational database system. My master's project, written in
Turbo Pascal, is an educational package designed to assist beginning
computer science student in the mastering of the concept of
dynamic data structures.
I worked one summer installing a two dimensional graphics language
package written in C. This position involved the modification, evaluation
and documentation of the package's capabilities. In the past year and half
I have held the position of teaching assistant for various computer
science courses. My duties included the presentation of course material
and the evaluation of students' programmes and exams.
My resume follows.

EDUCATION:
Master of Science (Computation): Department of Computer Science
and Systems, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario (September
1983 - January 1987)
* Courses completed include Data Structures, Computer
Architecture, Database, Programming Languages, Graphics,
Software Engineering, and Operating Systems. Grade Average is
B+.
* Languages include Fortran, Cobol, Pascal, C, and Prolog.
* Operating Systems used include UNIX and DOS.
* Master's Project consisted of an educational package
demonstrating the use of simple dynamic data structures. This
package is written in Turbo Pascal and runs on IBM personal
computers and their compatibles. Written presentation includes
a 203 page report and user manual.
Master of Science (Zoology): Department of Zoology, University of
Toronto, Toronto, Ontario. (September 1976 - February 1979)
* Courses completed were Biochemistry and Developmental Biology
Seminar Course. Grade Average is B+.
* Thesis topic was the genetic control of canalisation of two
specific phenotypic responses to hydroxyproline and glucosamine
in the common fruit fly. The thesis contained a computer
analysis of the data resulting from original experiments
designed to evaluate the fruit fly's ability to develop normally
in the presence of excessive amounts of chemical substances.
The thesis was 77 pages long and was the major requirement for
the degree.
* Intensive three week electron microscopy course at the
Department of Microbiology and Parasitology, University of
Toronto.
Bachelor of Arts (General): Faculty of Arts and Science,
University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario. (September 1970 - April
1974)
* Major areas of interest: Zoology, Psychology and Sociology.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Teaching Assistant(Sept. 1984 - April 1986) for several computer
science courses at McMaster University (Introductory Fortran for
Social Scientists, Database, Software Engineering and Data
Structures).
* Duties included both teaching basic concepts to students and
the evaluation of student programs.
* These duties developed my critical awareness of what
constitutes a well structured, clearly documented computer
program, thereby enhancing my own personal skills.
Research Assistant (Summer 1984) for Dr. P.J. Ryan, Department
of Computer Science and Systems, McMaster University.
* Responsible for porting a two dimensional graphics language
package written in C) from Version 7 UNIX to Version 6 UNIX.
* This stimulated an interest in graphics which was pursued
through a graphics reading course.
Positions Previous to 1977:
* I have worked as a clerk in an investment firm, typist, legal
secretary, psychology research assistant, zoology research
assistant, N.C.R. operator, and waitress.
PAPERS:
* Presented a paper entitled "Genetic Control of Phenotypic
Responses to hydroxyproline in _D_r_o_s_o_p_h_i_l_a _m_e_l_a_n_o_g_a_s_t_e_r" at the
1978 Halifax annual meeting of the Canadian Society of
Genetics.
