I'm looking for a UNIX system administrator to manage a network consisting of the latest hardware from SUN microsystems, due for installation this summer. The initial configuration will consist of a central server, and 5 individual workstations. Research staff will be working on the design, execution and analysis of clinical trials. Current trials include a comparison of medical and surgical approaches to stroke prevention which will involve 3000 patients from 50 hospitals throughout Canada and the United States and take 5-7 years to complete. Applications software will include tools for data base management, statistical analysis, graphics, and documentation. The position will entail the usual system configuration, maintenance, and user support functions. In addition I'm looking for someone with good programming skills (shell, C, Sunwindows, graphics, NeWS). The ability to write device drivers and edit the kernel is NOT a requirement for this position. Familiarity with statistics and clinical trials would be a plus. Good communication skills and a desire to make an important and creative contribution in a collaborative research environment are essential. We also have openings for a biostatistician (MA or Phd with research experience) and an applications programmer with data base experience (UNIX, C, UNIFY, SIR).
