Geac Computers International Inc. has an immediate need for a Technical Specialist in UNIX Operating Systems for its Advanced Development Division. We are: 1. A group of highly motivated designers with a wealth of cross discipline knowledge involved in Research and Development for our next generation of products. The successful candidate will: 1. Participate in the formulation of internal and external specifications for the Operating System aspect of the 4G project. 2. Co-operate with other members of the 4G Systems Group to formulate a UNIX superset to be used for other aspects of the 4G System. 3. Design, prototype and implement this UNIX superset. 4. Keep fully abreast of developments in distributed systems, UNIX standards, and of related developments in communications, database management, and computer languages. The successful candidate will provide: 1. A post secondary degree in Computer Science, or equivalent, with significant experience in the area of operating systems. 2. A strong background in UNIX. 3. A sound knowledge of C and some knowledge of other high-level programming languages. 4. Experience in formal design and specification methodology would be an asset. 5. Duties include system administration of the UNIX-based departmental research computers and MS-DOS-based microcomputer teaching laboratory; oversees the installation and maintenance of computer networks and the addition of terminals and nodes to these networks; makes recommendations on the purchase and maintenance of computing hardware and software.
