Full-Time Position Available: Data Communications Programmer Analyst

The Environmnet:
The candidate will join the communications group which is
part of the Information Utility project, the building of
a distributed system supporting integrated library
applications. The communication is based on IEEE 802.3
local area network and OSI protocols for long haul
communications. System distribution is built over the
TCP/IP protocol set with future evolution to the OSI. We
try to minimize development by integrating existing
communications products.
Components of the system include: the Unix operating system,
INGRES relational database management system, implementation is
in C. The hardware includes a VAX 8650 with Ultrix 2.0, Sun 3/50
and 3/160 with an 802.3 LAN.
The environment is stimulating and provides a good opportunity
for learning. We work with university professors who provide
consulting for us. The place and atmosphere are casual.
Required Education and Experience:
o B.Sc. in computer science or equivalent background.
o Three years experience in design and development of data
communications protocols.
Required Knowledge:
1. UNIX BSD or Ultrix
2. C language
3. TCP/IP protocol suite
4. software development methodology
Short Term Responsibilities:
1. Installation and evaluation of X.25 products for a VAX 8650 with
Ultrix 2.0.
2. Installation and evaluation of 802.3 (Ethernet) asynchronous
terminal servers supported under VAX 8650 Ultrix 2.0, and Local
Area Network network management tools.
3. Given a defined architecture, implementation of a distribution
platform based on the TCP/IP protocol suite.
4. Documentation of products developed/integrated.
