            Career Opportunity---Research Associate

As part of the Information Technology Research Centre recently
funded by the Ontario government, the Shoshin project is looking
for a research associate to take significant responsibility for
a project involving distributed system design and
implementation. The project involves extending the current
version of the Shoshin operating system to include support for
multiprocessors, and for the use of the TCP/IP protocol as a
basis for interkernel communication and interworking with UNIX.

Qualifications:

*	Familiarity with C and UNIX as a development environment
*	Familiarity with Digital Equipment Corp.'s VAX architecture
*	Familiarity with Ethernet local area networks and protocols
*	Good oral and written expression
*	Willingness to work within a small group

Candidates with a Master's degree in Computer Science are
preferred. However, candidates with fewer qualifications will
also be considered, as will postdoctoral candidates, especially
those interested in undergraduate teaching.

Duties:

Under the guidance of the Investigators for the project, the
candidate will take much of the responsibility for detailed
design and implementation of the multiprocessor version of
Shoshin, as well as replacing the current special-purpose
protocol for interkernel communication with one based on TCP/IP.
Performance measurements of the new software and hardware will
form an important part of the latter stages of the project. The
candidate is also expected to interact with and provide
technical support to some graduate student projects, and to
ensure a minimal level of hardware and software system support
on an ongoing basis.

Salary and Duration:

The position is currently open, and is funded through 30 June,
1989. Further employment will be contingent upon funding.
Salary dependent upon qualifications.
