This is a busy position with excellent prospects for advancement within the next 18 months for the right person. Supervision is minimal. The system is used for research purposes only. It consists of one Sun 3/180, one Sun 4/280, and about 10 diskless 3/50's, clients of the Sun 4. Three Sun 4/110's are on order and should be installed by the time the position is filled. Currently the majority of our user community (about 400 professors, graduate students, and research associates) is still working on the VAXcluster: a VAX 11/780 and 7 MicroVAX-II's. One of these MicroVAXes is owned and used exclusively by the Physics Department administration, and we maintain the system software. There is an Office Automation Programmer working in the department to maintain their database and word processing software. For more detailed information on the job description, please contact me by e-mail, or by phone from August 8. You should also be able to get the full job description from Personnel.
