28 March, 1989 Communications Security Establishment The Communications Security Establishment (CSE) requires engineers and computer scientists who have knowledge and recent experience in computer and communications systems including one or more of the following: - encryption/authentication techniques and technology; - wide area and local area network design and evaluation; - operating systems design; - database design and evaluation; - formal methods applied to the verification of hardware,software and protocols; and - digital and analog hardware design and evaluation; The Communications Security Establishment is responsible for developing Information Technology Security criteria for the Government of Canada and for certifying or endorsing commercial products to the criteria. CSE scientific staff also provide a consulting service to other government departments and agencies by assist them in meeting security requirements for a diverse set of applications. Through a number of industrial programs, industry is encouraged to develop trusted computer and communications products and CSE scientific staff are involved in providing security design guidance to industry and in performing security evaluations of products and systems. In conjunction with government, industry and universities, the work involves the research, development and evaluation of standards, methodology and tools which could be used in the design and evaluation of trusted computer and communications systems. The working environment will include a wide variety of current PC's, workstations, servers, host processors, network technology (both LAN and WAN), office automation software, design and development software and research tools. CSE will also be acting as a test site for new trusted products. This is an opportunity to enter a new, unique and growing aspect of computer and communications systems technology and to help shape the future of Information Technology Security in Canada. REQUIREMENTS: A degree in one of: - electrical engineering (or APEO membership); - computer science; or - mathematics with a computer science minor. Strong analytic skills, self-motivation and self-discipline. Some positions mat require a masters degree in one of the above disciplines. A security clearance is required. SALARY: Depending on qualifications, the salaries for working level positions are: Engineers - Up to $54,572 per annum (under review); Computer Scientists - up to $49,501 per annum (under review); and Mathematicians Salaries for positions requiring post-graduate degrees may be higher.
