UofT Department of Civil Engineering is looking for a UNIX systems programmer. The following is an extract from the job posting: Position: Professional Engineer II Salary Range: $39,171 - $46,083 - $52,995 Position Summary: Direct responsibility for ensuring the smooth operation and connection of all Departmental computing facilities. Duties include system administration on the UNIX-based Departmental research computers and MS-DOS-based microcomputer teaching laboratory. Overseas the installation and maintenance of computer networks, and the addition of terminals and nodes to these networks. Makes recommendations on the purchase and maintenance of computing hardware and software and acts as a Departmental resource person for computing. Supervises one or more technical assistants as necessary. Education: B.A.Sc./Engineering in Electrical Engineering, or B.Sc. in Computer Science or acceptable equivalent. Experience: Intimately familiar with UNIX-based systems, and networking. MS-DOS background an asset. Skills: 40 wpm typing skill on a VDT. Ability to communicate efficiently verbally and in writing; demonstrated analytical ability, good judgment, tact, patience, determination and organizational skills. Most of your time will be spent with the IRIS box, the network, and the terminal servers. Some contact with the users (profs & grads) in an advisory capacity should be expected.
