The department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto currently has available a system administrator position (classified at the System Programmer III level). The department has a number of workstations (Sun SPARCs, Sun-3s and Iris-4D/50), as well as a Sun 3/180 and a MIPS M/1000 networked together. These support research computing, teaching and word processing for a diverse community of approximately 200 users. We are seeking an individual with UNIX system administration experience, especially in a networked environment. In addition to software installation and maintainance responsibilities, the successful candidate will purchase and install hardware as needed, will interface with users, will make available software documentation, and will ensure continued effective operation of departmental computing resources. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who interacts well with users. Familiarity with currently available hardware and engineering software would be a plus. The current salary range for the position is $43,514 - $58,872 per annum.
