15 December 1989 Dear Potential Employer: I am currently seeking employment in the computer industry, preferably in technical support. I am willing to consider relocating to any part of North America. I have appended a copy of my resume. I have a Bachelor of Science with a major in Computer Science. My coursework included programming, data structures, discrete mathematics, calculus, linear algebra, numerical analysis, statistics, and computer architecture. Currently, I am employed doing technical support for University of Toronto Computing Services. We provide support for members of the academic community, ranging from experienced users (with highly technical questions) to absolute novices (who want to know how to turn the machine on). We support Berkeley UNIX (Sun OS 4.0), VM/CMS, MS-DOS, OS/2, Macintosh System 6.03, and a variety of software packages running in these environments. These include: WordPerfect 5.0 and 4.2, SAS (both mainframe and personal computer versions), MS Word 3.02 and 4.0 (for the Mac) and 5.0 (for MS-DOS machines), PageMaker (on both Mac and PC platforms), Excel, HyperCard, MS Windows, SunView, X Windows, Procomm. Essentially, we must field any question about any computer which anyone happens to be using. I enjoy the combination of personal contact and technical aspects of this job; it is quite rewarding to help people solve their problems and use computing tools effectively. I am also working as an operator of a Perkin Elmer mainframe running OS/32. In addition to the usual duties of a computer operator, I find myself doing a fair bit of technical support, including answering questions and routine hardware maintenance (printers, terminals, other peripherals). I look forward to hearing from you in the near future. The telephone number on my resume is equipped with an answering machine. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, /signed/ Adele Ponty - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Adele Julia Ponty B.Sc.
