		OCLSC Systems Programmer

   The Ontario Centre for Large Scale Computation at the University of
Toronto has an opening for a highly motivated individual to help
support of the Centre's Cray X-MP/24 supercomputer and its several
front end systems.

   The Systems Programmer position requires a thorough knowledge of
the UNIX operating system, utilities, communications systems and
accounting interfaces. A substantial knowlege of the VAX/VMS operating
system would be an asset.

   The successful candidate will possess a University degree in
Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science and have extensive
experience with operating systems software, computer languages and
applications programming.

Position        :    COMPUTATIONAL SCIENTIST (Application Programmer
                     Analyst 3)
Department      :    Ontario Centre for Large Scale Computation

Position Summary :

Under the direction of the Manager, Technical Support, the incumbent
will be responsible for providing support to a wide community of users
in the application of the CRAY system to scientific and engineering
solutions.  Duties include optimization and vectorization of client
programs; implementing and supporting scientific applications;
analyzing user requirements and providing solutions; assisting in the
demonstration of CRAY software and local and remote telecommunication
services and facilities; preparing system and user documentation; and
participating in various projects.

Minimum Qualifications :

Education    :  University degree.  Postgraduate degree in Computer
Science, Engineering or other related discipline preferred.

Experience   :  Three years' related experience or acceptable
equivalent of education and experience; knowledge of computer
applications in engineering and modelling fields; working knowledge of
Fortran and scientific libraries.  Experience with networks and DEC
VAX/VMS in addition to UNIX.

Other        :  Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability
to deal effectively with a variety of users.
