Being one of those who tends to ride at all odd times of the year (i.e., not just fair weather), I have run into bunches of those dumb detectors that won't recognize the existance of a motorcycle. As others have already mentioned, if the lights are not functioning, our law (Oregon) says the intersection is an "all-way" stop. But if the detector just won't pick you up, you must use your own discretion. At night or in times of low-volume traffic, look both ways, then go, but hang onto your excuse. During the higher-volume times, if it doesn't click the relay for one light, I wait patiently until it's just about time for the next light change, then roll into the crosswalk and motion the car behind to roll over the detector. That always gets a smile from the auto driver and promotes good will when they realize you are making an effort rather than the feeling they get when you "have to" run the light (DAMN BIKERS!!!). Always make an effort first, then when all reasonable attempts have failed, go! Rich
