I've had a Firefly modulator on my GS1000G for a year (12,000 mi). It does get other motorists attention! I could see them stare at me for as far as I could see. I think they should be used with some reason, downtown traffic or interstate driving where you can be behind someone for a considerable time is where you should switch off. For country roads and residential streets it should definitely be on! This is my first bike with a Quartz-Halogen bulb, (came with my Vetter fairing). Its lifetime was a year, 15,000 miles, 12,000 on the modulator. When it went bad, it did it in a strange way. While riding one day with the modulator off/low beam I noticed the high beam indicator came on and headlight went completely off. This happened several times, and finally figured out if I left the system off for several minutes (to cool off the bulb), it would work for several hours more. Found out later this had nothing to do with the modulator but is the normal?! way Q-H bulbs go out. Anyway, the modulator was worth the $30 I paid! Timothy Lange Freshman Engr. Purdue University
