I also have a squealing problem on my bike, but it sounds more severe than Paul Thompson's. I too would like to hear from anyone who might be able to help. I have a '79 Honda CM400T, and the front disk squeals ALL the time (even when I'm just pushing it into the garage). I've reversed the pads, changed the pads, cleaned the pads, cleaned the disk, removed the shims, put the shims back in -- all for naught. The dealer says my disk must be scored from dirt. If that's the case, it must have happened the first time I rode the bike (I got it new). NOTE: The squealing stops when I lean in to a left turn -- this tends to make me a might uncomfortable about the amount of flex I must have in the front fork. Any thoughts? I have a friend with a Yamaha XS850 which he bought in August, 1981. At the same time I bought an XS1100. The two bikes seem to have identical brakes, but his have squeaked since day one (and I mean a head-piercing scream) while mine have remained silent. His dealer gives him the same crummy run-around and I think it's bullshit - they just don't want to pay for defective pads and/or disks and/or calipers. -Dave Ziffer
