Sony does indeed make very small earphones for the Walkman which will fit right in your ear and only have two wires, one for each ear. There is no problem putting a motorcycle helmet on over them. I do a lot of riding, most trips being from 1 hour to 6 hours long, and there is no way I am going to travel for that long a time without some good tunes. I have the Walkman model with the tuner and tape deck, and I find that the small earphones work excellent. Sometimes, however, after a couple of hours, they will bother my ears a little. I don't use the radio because by the time I tune in a station, and ride for a couple of miles, it just fades out, and I have to find another station. I just don't like distractions while I am enjoying the scenery. Therefore I pop in a 60 minute TDK, recorded with either real rowdy speed inducing biker type music or mellow cruising tunes, and I am on my way. As far as being illegal, I keep it under my coat. So whether it be illegal, keep me from hearing road noises, or whatever, sure it is a little risky. But it's not half the risk of riding a motorcycle or dirt bike, mountain climbing, caving, canoeing, or all the other dangerous things I do for fun.
