I've also heard this and many similar references to motorcycles in the 26 years that i've been riding and it can become tiresome. However, i'm the first to admit that motorcycles are dangerous and I think it's a big mistake to pretend that the're not. I once read that the best way to survive this sport is to always ride a little bit scared. I think there's a lot of truth to this. Overconfidence and lack of caution can prove fatal. Which reminds me of a funny incident I witnessed at a motorcycle shop shortly after the helmet law went into effect. A guy and his friend had stopped in to get some parts. His (non-riding) friend was killing time looking around the store when he picked up a helmet and said,"yeah I hear these things are pretty good. Every time they find one the head's in good shape".
