#N:zinfandel:4600020:000:409 zinfandel!joe Mar 12 08:32:00 1984 What do you know about the process of running in an engine? What's the optimal driving profile for achieving good ring bedding. A few quarts of oil seems like cheap insurance; does changing the oil more frequently than the procedure in the manual states help any? What other factors are there? Promptly posted reply articles will be of much help with my bouncing baby fj1100. Thank You, Jow Weinstein

In my experience (having done a number of top end jobs on my Hondas and BMWs) an oil change at 750 miles will amaze you as far as the number of pieces of junk that will be washed out. I would change at 750, 1500, and 3000 miles, the hell with the book. As far as break-in, go easy on the revs as they tell you in the book. The main trick is not to keep up a steady engine speed for more than 5 minutes at a time for the first 1000 miles or so. (maybe it's only 500 these days...I forget). If you must go on a highway, switch gears often. Have fun and stay upright. "That's the biz, sweetheart..." Dave Fiedler {harpo, astrovax, philabs}!infopro!dave

Somebody has an FJ1100!!?? Please tell us about it! Up here in Oregon we haven't seen hide nor hair yet. I have noticed that the 1984 VF750F Honda is selling for around $4398, whew! that is stiff, especially considering you could get the new Ninja 900 from Kawasaki for the same price. The new 500 and 1000 Honda Vee's are not in yet either. Personally, it would be hard for me to pass up a new 1982 Suzuki 750T for $2299, but since you already dropped near 5K bucks, how is that big Yamahopper!!?? tektronix!tekig!david
