[net.cycle] Good Handling SR500

Well now the SR isn't really so bad, it's just not too good!
I've spent some time thrashing about an SR. This one wasn't exactly
stock. It had hand made Kosman hubs and carriers with floating 13inch
disks, Wheel Works wheels, hand built Bill Toomey exhaust, clip-ons,
rear sets, goodyear slicks, etc, etc, etc, ... It probably cost more
than my Interceptor 750!!! It was alot of fun but my STOCK GS550
ran away from it! Why you ask? The SR just couldn't get out of the
corners fast enough. When it (SR) had the stock brakes, the GS would
out brake it hands down (the custom brakes put an end to that). The
SR wasn't as light as it should have been, in fact the scales at
Sears Point said it was only a few pounds lighter than the Suzuki four!
The bottom line is that it WAS fun. I mean why else would you
buy a motorcycle? Charactor has alot to do with fun but given the
choice I would chose an Interceptor 500, a GPz 550, FJ600, GS550ES, or
even a VT500 (however if I REALLY had a choice I would buy an RG500!!)
As to thumpers being out of date, I say no. Thumpers are cool
and anyone whose ever riden a Honda XL knows what I'm talking about.
I'm talking torque, I mean pure low speed fun. On my Interceptor, I
have to be traveling at ultra-illegal speeds before I experience pure
fun. On an XL I get the same bang inside the parking lot!
Thumpers can go fast. I used to race against a guy in the AFM
who had a custom framed (and everything else) XL thumper. He was ALWAYS
first off the line in 600 super street (unlimited modified production)
and usualy led the race until the 2-stroke GP bikes finaly caught it.
He was hitting 115-120mph in the straights.

Enough dribble for the day ...
