[net.cycle] Pulls to the right?

A friend of mine has an 82 GL500 with around 1000 miles. He is
concerned that the bike has a tendency to slightly pull to the
right if you let go of the handle bars. I tried it also and agree.
It is not the crown in the road as different surfaces have been
tried. Also it is a shaft drive so the rear tire was not misaligned
during chain adjustment. The bike has never had a spill, the forks
seem straight. Any ideas?

I have heard that the Silver Wings/CX500/CX650/etc. have a tendency to
dent the races on the fork bearings, thereby causing the handlebars
to fall into a predetermined position on their own. This may not be
your friend's problem, but you can find out by putting the bike on its
centerstand, getting someone to hold the back end down so that the front
tire is in the air, and then *GENTLY* moving the tire from side to
side. If, as you slowly move the tire with your finger, it "jumps" into
a groove, you have a worn out bearing. This still might not be your
problem, but it is a problem.
