I just returned from a road trip that included the Pacific northwest from the Bay area north. Some of the places I found worth going to were: Yosemite - Although a little out of your way a very scenic strech of road in the morning before the tourist rush. Good hiking too. Tahoe - The area around the lake is very commercial but if you like to sail and just enjoy the beautiful country side, drive through. Lassen Volcanic Pk. - Nice high country drive with majestic cinder cones & patches of snow. Burney Falls - A Ca. state park with THE most beautiful water falls I've ever seen. These are some of the places I went to in CA. in Oregon I stayed on the eastern edge (Hells Canyon area) and around Joseph is very nice. Just a general note, America can be seen the best (clearest) on the old highways and NOT on interstates/freeways... Free road maps of each state are usually available at the port of entry and are the best bet for finding the good roads. Sacrifice a little time and take the scenic routes. If you like to read during your breaks and evenings I recommend "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" for some heavy brain food during the drive. Good riding Jim Baker (hpfcla!baker)
