I'm planning on putting a CB on my bike (for touring) as soon as it gets a
little warmer. I've alreday purchased the radio (a Cobra) but still have to
get an antenna.
I have a CB in my car and with a mobil magnetic mount antenna I can get
out about 20 miles or so. However, while testing the new radio on my bike
with the magnetic mount antenna I found that the SWR's were high and
effective range rather poor.
I attribute this to the poor "ground plane" effect of the bike as
compared to a car body.
Since I'd be using the radio for touring only I'd be willing to go to a
quarter wave whip or a dipole if that would increase the range.
Does anyone have any insight into this ? If you have a CB on your bike
what kind of range do you get on the highway ? What about interference
from the bikes ignition system ?
Thanks...
