Alright already, I'm sorry, uncle, a thousand pardons. Of course one should absolutely always avoid the absolute in making declarations. What I should have said is, "as far as I know there is nothing available to the general public which offers more protection than leather." Of course the jury is still out on the polyamide stuff but that doesn't excuse the slip. What I wished to accomplish with my ill worded emphasis was to impress on everyone that sliding down the pavement is a highly frictional event and that nylon, cotton or whatever is just not going to cut the mustard. I had the dubious pleasure of road testing my leathers again yesterday when I crashed in turn one of the first lap. Even though it was only about a thirty mph crash I was very happy to get up (after coming to a full stop AND waiting for the traffic to pass (-: ) and brush myself off with no damage to the epidermis. The thought of doing the same thing in my jeans and flannel shirt is enough to make my legs weak. I for one, hope that some material even better (cheaper and cooler would be nice too) than leather comes along. I will be glad to buy it and more importantly, be glad to wear it.
