I just got a call from my local Yamaha dealer telling me that my brand new 1984 RZ350 ( ~1500 miles ) tried to weld its rings, cylinder, and piston into one immovable structure. This probably explained why it refused to start one day, but what I'm wondering is what could have gone wrong. The service guy said that the cylinder was covered with burnt oil, but he also said that he wasn't sure what that meant because this was the first RZ350 he's worked on. He's going to bore it out and fix it ( under warranty thank the gods of motorcycling ), but I would like to know what happened so I can keep it from happening again. Cliff Stevens ...!ihnp4!solar!cas PS I kept the injection oil tank filled with the proper oil, so I don't think that's the problem.

The "refusal to start" sounds odd--usually piston seizure occurs during hard running. To have your bike seize up just as you get it into the garage is awfully lucky, actually. It sounds like your cylinder got gummed up from running at wrong temperature or wrong mixture. If you've got the right plug then something very freaky happened to your injection system or the reed valve. Probably nothing you could have avoided through normal care and maintenance, assuming it was running fine up to that fatal morning. -- *** *** JE MAINTIENDRAI ***** ***** ****** ****** 19 Jun 85 [1 Messidor An CXCIII] ken perlow ***** ***** (312)979-7753 ** ** ** ** ..ihnp4!iwsl8!ken *** ***
