the other day i saw an ad for a Honda Silverwing (500 cc, "GL" model,
i think). it has saddle bags, fairing (i think it's standard for
this bike). anyway, i was wondering if there is anybody who owns this
kind of bike who could offer some advice; this is a used bike, and i'm
not sure what i should be looking for. are there any problems i should
be wary of? what problems have people had with this bike? what would
be a fair price (btw, it's an '82 with 13+k miles)? the guy says he
once ruined the right air shock (he used a gas station hose), but had
that fixed. there are a few scratches on the right side of the fairing
and saddle bad; he says he never dumped it, though. no major work has
been done on it (just oil changes). what kind of maintenance is this
bike ready for? how is the maintenence on this bike in general?
does this bike hold up well in city driving conditions? how does it
stand up to a 16 year old's thrashing (i.e. hard accelerating)? is this
bike made for punishment? one last question: what kind of range does
this bike have and what's the mpg? all responses will be appreciated.
