[net.cycle] Seat for CX500??

champ@ccvaxa.UUCP (07/09/85)

I own a 1978 Honda CX500. The bike is in good shape, but the
seat is developing a tear. I talked to my local Honda dealer
about replacing the seat, and he said it would cost me about
$100 to buy a new seat from Honda. He also said that someone
makes a cover that uses the old pan and foam - it costs $90.
Both of these options are out of my price range.

Does anyone have a seat for my bike just sitting around collecting
dust? There has to be someone somewhere who replaced the stock
seat on his 500 with a custom seat. If only I could find that
person, I'd buy his old stock seat in an instant. I'd really
appreciate any help on this. Thanks.

I am sorry for putting my reply on the net but direct mail to you
did not work.

Find out if the seat from a 1981 CX500 would fit, if so send me
a reply or call me at work, as my mail did not reach you, yours may
not reach me. A friend put a custom seat on his 1981 CX500 and the
old one is gathering dust in his attic.

I had to replace the seat on my old bike. Duct tape *does* have
    its limits.

I went to a local upholstry professional, and he happened to have
an intact seat cover from a Porsche he had re-done. Now the bike
has a beautiful seat cover that no doubt is better than new.

The whole job cost me $30 or $35

This topic is particularly relevant to me as my current bike's
seat just started to tear. Once that first rip forms, there's
no stopping it (you think cancer spreads fast). Anyone have
an old Porsche I could rip the seats out of? :-)

    /+\ Keith
