[net.cycle] Halogen Driving Lights on a Bike

Does anyone have experience with putting (car) Halogen Driving lights
on a bike ?
I've had some pretty bad luck. I bought a set and they "ate" my
battery.
Theoretically, it should work. My alternator puts out 260 watts at
5000 rpm. The driving lights came with a fused power lead with a 15
amp fuse. My guesstimate is that the lamps draw 200 watts max. The
quartz headlamp stock on the bike draws 45 watts.
Its real close but for non-continuous operation it should work.

Does anyone know if there is a possibility of damaging the alternator
pushing it to max output like this ? Has anyone successfully put these
lights on a bike and had it "work".

(My bad luck was that I did some low speed driving with the lights
"on" and in the span of about 1 hour the battery couldn't kick the
starter over (750 Nighthawk).

  Thanks, I need some help
