[net.cycle] Toys for Tots - Chicago area Dec 7, 1985 / the big one.

gary@sphinx.UChicago.UUCP (gary w buchholz) (11/23/85)

The annual Toys for Tots for the Chicago area is scheduled for
Saturday Dec 7, 1985. We will meet at 85 and Western (Dan Ryan Woods)
and begin lining bikes up at 9:00 AM. We are scheduled to leave at
12:00 with police escort.

The route is 8500 south on Western to 5200 North nonstop. Chicago
police will have all the intersections blocked off on Western for us
for the entire 25 mile ride. At foster ave we will turn left and
continue west to the military installation near Foster and Kimball
where the toys will be dropped off. The people at the military base
will supply soup, coffee, and hot chocolate when we get there.

To participate you must bring an unwrapped toy of value $5 or more
per bike. No rain date, this happens rain, shine or snow. No drag
racing, no wheelies... aw fooey.

This is basically a Harley event. Chicagos "best" will be there -
Hells Henchman, Outlaws, Creatans, etc etc. Everyone is real friendly
at this one - no matter what bike you have you are welcome. (We're
doing it for the kids after all....)

I should be careful here.... the best part of this whole thing is at
the end watching all these die hard Harley guys try to kick start those
big choppers after they've been sittin' out in 30 deg weather while the
bikers have been inside drinking that coffee at the base. Ever try to
kick start a 1000cc Sportster in 30 deg weather with 20W-50 oil ? Come
and see. (Oh, last year we had about 2000 bikers on this one)
