A method that has served me well is to use the front wheel as a fulcrum. Stand facing the bike such that the wheels are close to you and the tank is away from you. If the bike is pointing left, place your left foot on the ground and against the front tire. Lean into the bike and grab the down-side handlebar. Now lean back and lift the handlebar. The front fork, and hense the bike, will rotate upwards about the front axle while your foot keeps the tire from moving/sliding. The wheel provides a fulcrum, the handlebar provides a lever, and your long arm and body weight provide the counter balance. This does take some practice (hope you don't have to) but works REAL well. The biggest problem is stoping the bike once it has reached vertical as it tends to continue its movement over to the other side! P.S. you need to first turn the handlebars so that the tire is pointing upwards away from the ground.
