If anyone's been thinking about water-tight clothing for bike riding, Eastern Mountain Sports is now having a sale on Gore-Tex pants for something like $67. I priced them last year in quite a few different places, and everyone wanted about $100. EMS has stores all over the northeast, as well as Colorado and a few other places. (This isn't an ad for EMS or W.L.Gore - Just that Gore-Tex fabric impresses the heck out of me (I impress easily), and it's an almost perfect riding comfort material. Please, no sermons about how I should be wearing leather pants.) Tom Hood It's spring in New England!

I bought an entire Gore-Tex two-piece suit from Leading Edge, a bicycling supplier in Colorado. It provides very good rain protection, except for a little blow-by between the non-full-length Velcro front closure, and "breathes" so you don't sweat when the sun is out. It is cut long in the pant legs and back of the jacket so it doesn't ride up in a sitting position. Leading Edge wants about $180 for both pieces, 10% off for new customers. Just don't touch it to the pipes because the shell is Nylon. The Teflon microporus inner coating, which is the real trick of Gore-Tex should help prevent sticking to skin in the event of an upset but I wear regular pants and long sleeve shirt underneath anyway.
