"How many non-helmet wearers does it take to change a light bulb?" The issue of wearing a helmet while riding bicycles or motorcycles is one of personal preference (safety). However, yesterday I had an experience that should convince a few more people that are unsure of the benefits of helmets. While riding merrily along the shoulder of the road five large gravel trucks passed me, one after the other, and they all spewed gravel my direction. I just put my head down and let the helmet take the gravel instead of my head. I know that my face was not very well protected but, it was reassuring to know that I could protect a at least a portion of my head from serious injury. This has also happened while riding my motorcycle. Of course, when this has happened in my car the windshield sustained the damage. "Just one more reason to encourage people to protect what is important to them. If it's not important why protect it!"
