On the subject of cops stopping people... I was cruising back to MA from a wedding in NY today (Sunday). My route took me through CT, but it didn't turn out to be the problem I thought it would be. Maybe there weren't any cops on the road. Anyway, I did see two state troopers on the Mass Pike, and they saw me, and I was obviously bookin' (70+, passing most people). The first one, I was crusing probably around 75 in the left lane, pitched forward (no fairing), so I was only checking my mirrors every 10 secs or so. I see a car behind me (so, I figure he wants to go faster and start to get out of the way), then I see there are lights on top of the car. Then after my adrenaline backs off, I see the lights aren't flashing. So, I switch right and let the nice officer by. A little later, a statie (maybe even the same one) was sitting in the middle, facing my side. Again, I was pretty isolated in the left lane. I didn't dive into the next lane (that would be an admission of guilt!), I just dropped my speed from 75 to 70 (why? I don't know. Maybe to show "good attitude.") Then I saw signs for a state police HQ up the rode and figured "this is it, they'll be out there waiting for me," so I tried to get in the middle of lots of cars (the only bike, of course). But noooo, they weren't out there. Luck? The fact that I had a pile of luggage on the bike? My cheerful smiling face? Who knows? My bike looks plain (83 KZ750), not like a racer. Hope this amuses...
