this survey to start flames on the size or particular flavor of someones pride
and joy. Thank you for participating! If you are reading this and are not

None, just sold my '84 500 Interceptor. I am considering either the
Kawasaki Concourse or the 750 BMW flat triple. (Any good or bad experiences
with these bikes would be appreciated!)

1984&1/2 500 Interceptor - Fantastic pure sport bike. Hard on me because of my

it, it was just totaled. (sigh)
1982 750 Sabre - I really miss this bike. Should never of sold it.

commute regularly to work and have become addicted to hard saddlebags.
weather is no problem, as raingear, spare clothing, etc. are always
ready for use. i have had fairings ( clear and handlebar mounted ),
but don't like being visually "hemmed in" by them. the reflected
engine noise also bothers me. one highly recommended accessory
i've been using the last 2 years is a widder electric vest. with
this vest, a leather jacket, and overpants i can comfortably
ride to work ( 20 minute commute ) in 30 degree weather.

These are items that I have had more than cursory experience with at
one time or another. It's too much work to list individual items with

	Rickman cafe fairing
Bagman tankbag and saddlebags (early models, circa 1981)

My present bike is a new, purchased several months
ago, 1983 Yamaha XJ650LK Turbo. The only accessory
I currently have installed is the hardware for a
pair of throw over saddlebags. I have rotated the
handlebars upwards somewhat and am interested in
another set of bars with somewhat more offset
backwards. I am also interested in a spoiler
device to add to the top of my windscreen to
smooth airflow. I have seen something like this
at Cycle Gear. I am installing a Dunlop K700
radial tire as my first aftermarket rear tire
but have not yet done so.
--- Past
My last bike was a Suzuki GR650, a modern version
of the vertical twin. On this bike I made a number
of modifications to carburetor jetting and repositioned
the needles. I also made a number of minor changes
to reduce mirror blurriness and vibration.
My first bike was a 1979 Honda CB400 Hawk.

The Bell is heavier, but quieter; the `adjustment pads' do a so-so job, and
I found the helmet pressed into my forehead when I rode long distances into

Most of the accessories that I or my wife have (the R65LS is hers)
relate to clothing (leathers, electric vests/chaps, loves, etc.),
however, I have several handling improvements on the /7...e.g.,
swing arm reinforced, stronger triple clamp, heavy duty springs with
spacers for the front end (goes with the added weight from my 8.5 gallon
gas tank), modified breather that no longer feeds and therefore clogs the
carburation system...

Nothing here really. I will probably be getting some race compound tires

The RZ has to have the best price/performance ratio of any bike on the
road. I can usually take on middle weights (500-600cc) quite successfully
and I can usually make respectable showings against 750's (Interceptors and
the like). Amazing for a 350cc machine. Highly recommended to anyone who
wants a high performance machine without paying the premium price demanded
by GSX's, FZ's and Interceptors. Unfortunately I have heard that the RZ
family is not sold in the US.

Pirelli tires on both bikes. RD is otherwise stock. Vision has Euro-kit
(lower bars, rear-set pegs) and seemingly rare Yamaha cafe fairing that
was specifically for the Vision. The pegs and bars make the bike much
more comfortable to ride, the fairing makes it hiway-worthy.
--- Other
The Enduro was what I learned on. It was really fun to ride
(around town, off-road) and was an excellent `first bike'.
The two current bikes each have their strong points and basically no
weak points (except the $$ required to replace the 550's mufflers - there
were no aftermarket pipes available except perhaps custom Wolf's...).

     3) Yamaha DT100B 1975 - bought new in Sept of 1984 (centimental-

--- Past
     1) Yamaha XS400SH Special II 1981 - bought used 6K miles in 1983
                                          sold to get the Magna.
     2) Kawasaki 175 1972 model - unsure of the model number as it
was an old street/trail bike that
                                  had been stripped for dirt.
--- Acc.
I don't like fairings! and don't think I would ever own one.
I am thinking about a windshield for the Magna however.
Sometimes it gets a little windy, and it would be nice to
keep those darn rocks off of me!
I do have a BMW helmet, and really like it, there are so many
accessories that can be bought for it, rain gear and such.
I also have a Bell Tourstar that I wouldn't give up for anything.
--- Other
I don't think that I would ever buy another used bike.
The Kawasaki taught me to never try and rebuild a bike,
although I did succeed in getting it together and running
but I thought that it never really ran "right". Guess
I'm not the mechanic that I thought I was. It was however
an educational experence, taught me alot about the mechanics
         of bikes.
I really loved the Yamaha XS400 Special! I hated to get rid
of it! But I thought *Magna*. I like the Honda much better
but still occasionally miss the Yamaha, at least each time
         I make a payment :-)
About the only work that I do myself is an oil change, each
season, I feel that this is very important. Balancing
carburators is for a REAL mechanic, particularly on the
Magna. Always take it to someone you TRUST! This last
         part is critical!

I really like the Yamaha Maxim 1100, except for a few minor
       nuisances:

           (a) The oil light comes on after a few seconds of heavy
acceleration (common in bikes with level instead of
	       pressure oil sensors.)

	   (b) The front end wobbles at slow speeds in corners.
I'm told the wobble can be corrected with a fork brace
	       (reference available on request).

           (c) The acrylic clear overcoat on the engine casings is starting
to decompose, giving the aluminum a splotchy look. Plenty
of polishing to do this winter.

A big plus is the LCD status readout (fuel, oil, battery, brakes,
headlight, taillight, sidestand). This bike has "unified" braking,
i.e., one of the front discs and the back disc are both controlled
from the foot pedal. The real power band starts at 4K RPM, so
accelerating fast from cruising requires a downshift. The bike
was only made for a year (1982), so I'm hoping that replacement
parts/supplies don't evaporate before I finish with it.

so hard to handle as I think many people tend to believe. But the CX
