Those issues of "Motorcyclist" that Larry Tepper mentioned don't really tell you much about wind noise. They just sort of casually mentioned something like "the Mother_Jones Skid_Lid TM was among the quieter helmets we tested," or "the Bugs_Bunny Bwain Bwucket was atrocious at any speeds above 40 mph," etc. Most helmets tested did not evoke any comments at all, negative or otherwise. I myself find wind noise at highway speeds on any trip more than a couple of hours quite bothersome. Ear plugs help, but only if I remember to wear them. A big barndoor would help I suppose, but I would much prefer the looks of my Rickman Centura, thank you! My Bell Star is a lot better than the Nava I had before that, but I still want more (or less as the case may be.) I have heard that the Arai Astros are pretty quiet. Anybody out there care to comment? Au "Easy on the Sarcasm" Nguyen ..!hou2h!an (201) 834-1042

Has anyone noticed a gradual degradation of their helmet's quietness as they get older? When I first moved up to my Bell Star II from a Nava 2, I thought it was very quiet. After a couple of years I found myself wearing ear plugs for highway trips and wishing I had a quieter helmet. I guess the soft foam, especially the cheek pads and the neck roll, compress some or just get saggy with all the sweat and use, etc. Au ihnp4!houem!ahn "The quieter it is, the faster I go." -- E.
