[net.rec.photo] Data Sources for Photo Hackers

bryan (11/08/82)

There are a number of first rate sources of info on photo hacks and general
darkroom work. First and currently my favorite is Dale Neville's
Superformance Bulletin. It is available for the dirt cheap price of $12
(soon to be $15) per year. He has back issues available. Current issue inclues:
Simple test for crossover and other odds and ends on analyzers
Print developers using Kodak CD-6 (longer print life may be result!!!!)
    Cupric Cloride bleach
    A super-compensating 2-bath B&W developer
I have found the bulletin to be highly useful. All sorts of hints and
suggestions on color printing. Dale's address is:

Zone V in the Boston area is both a source of chemicals and know-how. They
publish a newsletter that is mainly devoted to Zone V's products but also
usually contains useful info. Best of all its free. You just have to order
something on occasion. Since their prices are excellent that should be no
problem. Try their 85 deg color neg chemistry if you are tired of working
at 100 deg and forking out $$$.

The all time great wizard in the photo hacking game is Patrick Dignan. Some
of you may have seen his B&W and color books. He is once again publishing
a newsletter. I'm not as impressed at his current efforts as the older
newsletters. Still he has recently published some neat stuff, for example,
an E-6 first developer made from Vit C, phenidone and salt. Price is $30 for five issues. I have forgotten the address.
Send me a note if you want it. But by all means get the two Dignan books
(Zone V and Photographers Formulary carry them)

Photographers Formulary used to send out free info sheets on their stuff.
I have not requested any recently so I don't know if they still do. It is
a good source for some of the more exotic chemicals for older processes.

If you are interested in chemicals and on the west coast try Lauder Chemical
in San Mateo. Pennsular Ave. I think.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has other sources.
