[net.rec.photo] Auto Focus - experience with

cjy (11/08/82)

I am not a regular reader of this newsgroup, but I noticed
your query about an auto focus Cannon camera. Now I don't know if
this is the same focus arrangement as the Cannon "Sure Shot", but if
it is, I think you will like it. One must remember that there are
some surfaces that will cause the focus to malfunction - but once
you gain experience with the camera, you should have no problem.

For years, I used a 35 mm. Sears camera to shoot slides and
high quality prints. A lot of film was wasted with pictures that
came out poorly due to a weak battery in my light meter or bad
intuition on manual settings. With the Sure Shot, I have almost no
rejects. It only uses two AA batteries ( available all over the
world! ), has automatic focus, an autowinder, and even a built-in
flash. The specific price escapes me now, but I think it was around
the 130 dollar mark a few years ago.

Sure, you can't take time exposures or use a higher than
normal f - stop to get unusual colors into a sunrise(set), but how
many of those shots can your friends tolerate? On vacation, this
camera is really super, all you need to carry is an extra roll of
film ( regular 35 mm. ).

For someone that is really into photography, this camera
probably does not have many features that they usually find useful.
If, however, your photos are of the kids, Christmas, Easter,
vacation, etc., it's probably all the camera you'll need.
