I am thinking about purchasing a telephoto lens. The compactness of the new reflective telephotos seems quite attractive. Perhaps such a compact lens, when used with the new `fast' Kodak film (ASA 1000), would eliminate the need for multiple tripods (maybe none?) for long focal length lenses. May I query the knowledgeable inhabitants of netland to provide some pros and cons on reflective telephoto lenses? Thanks in advance. Phil Bonesteele - TRW {ucbvax,decvax,randvax}!trw-unix!pwb

The big bummer with mirror lenses is that you can't usually adjust the f-stop, though the Nikkors do (or used to) come with neutral density filters for that purpose. Also, I'd check out how they respond to flare, etc. I'll bet the patterns are quite different than in conventional lenses. Rick.
