I too have used a manual camera for years now (Nikkormat FT3) with great success. I have also recently bought a Nikon FG and have used it in manual, automatic (aperature preferred), and programmed mode (kind of neat, but the programmed curve goes to slow shutter speeds before the aperature goes to 1.4). I like the FG and feel it takes pics as good as the FT3. Only time will tell as far as the reliability and durability of the FG go. If I had my choice, I'd take the FG (as it was, the FG was a present for a friend, so I only get to play with it from time to time now); it is well designed, with most functions at your fingertips. Its only drawback is that it doesn't have depth-of-field preview (something I use at least every 10 to 20 shots). Pat Wood BTL Whippany mhuxv!whuxa!phw
