I read a "household hint" which suggested using plastic film containers for picnic/camping items such as mayonnaise, mustard, relish, etc. I'm wondering if there might be any chemical residues in the film containers that would be harmful (I'd wash them with soap first of course). I'd like to hear of other re-uses for the containers.

35-mm film containers are useful for almost any sort of small storage
requirements. They're PVC plastic which I trust for everything except
solvent storage. It's a dreary hassle to label them, yet utterly
necessary if you have more than three or four in a backpack. One
foole I no longer backpack with once poured laundry detergent, instead
of salt, into the stew.
REI Co-op offers a set of lids that turn two containers into salt and
pepper shakers.
A container filled with lead azide breaks the ice (and windows) at parties.
Friends in college used to keep their drug stashes in them.
