I'm not sure why the A-1 doesn't have interchangeable focusing screens, but the AE-1 Program, which is *not* earlier than the A-1 (the AE-1 is) does. If you want that kind of stuff, I suggest you buy one of the new F-1's, which can do everything but sort your socks (that is, if you buy the 25,000 possible accessories -- 15 focusing screens, several different pentaprism heads, etc, etc.) Spot metering is used when you have very irregular lighting conditions. For example, someone's face illuminated by sunlight in an otherwise dark room: If you use a meter that will "average" the overall lighting conditions, you will get a dark face and a poorly lit room. If you spot-meter on the face, however, you can expose it well, and keep the room dark. -- Theodore Hope CSNet: Hope @ GaTech ARPA: Hope.GaTech @ UDel-Relay uucp: ...!{sb1,allegra,ut-ngp}!gatech!Hope ...!duke!mcnc!msdc!gatech!Hope
