[net.rec.photo] Wide angle lenses for Canon

hope@gatech.UUCP (11/06/83)

To someone who was wondering about wide-angle lenses for his AE-1:

A 24mm or 28mm gives excellent results for architectural and/or landscape
shots (among other things), although you may want to use a lens in the
15mm-20mm range for slightly bizarre effects -- WIDE landscapes or shooting
a large object when you can't get far enough away. Canon (FD) lenses *are*
quite expensive, but I have gotten just as good results with work-alike brands
(eg Vivitar, Tokina). My default lens (on my A1) is a Tokina 35-70 MacroZoom,
and I rarely replace it with an 80-200 macro (unless I'm too far). Unless you
are very picky at enlargement time, a 2X teleconverter on your "normal" lens
will do the job of a telephoto (and get you twice as much macro, to boot!).
