I need a recommendation on a simple camera for someone not on the net. She is not interested in photography as a hobby, so much as she needs a camera to record images for her job (Geology) in the field. Here are some constraints: 1) Must be inexpensive enough so as not to worry too much about when backpacking. (probably not much more than $100, including case and flash). 2) Automatic exposure would be strongly desirable, manual overrides for chosing speed or F-stop not really necessary. 3) Capability for closup work (3 feet is probably close enough) with or without an additional lens strongly desired. 4) An accurate viewfinder is essential. 5) Capability to expand with more lenses may be nice, but not at all essential. What she needs is just a basic camera. 6) Film used is mostly for slides (Kodachrome). Before we go out looking, I thought I would get some input from the netnews community.
