[net.rec.photo] what camera to buy??

jeff@ssc-vax.UUCP (Jeffrey Jongeward) (08/10/84)

Can anyone offer advice to a non photo buff about what
35mm camera body to buy in the ~$220 range. I was
thinking either Canon A-1 or Ricoh XR-P. Has the latter
any advantages over the former due to newness of design?
Is there something better than either of the above that
I am missing? Are they all about the same feature-wise?
What I am looking for is something with the usual automatic
features + manual.

I've owned the AE1-P for about 9 months now and I enjoy it
very much. I wish that I could have bought the A-1 but it
was a little out of my price range. I find the AE1-P is
very reliable in terms of exposure in the programmed mode.

My wife also likes as she doesn't need to do anything but
focus and shoot, yet I can take liberties with the exposure
settings if I want to.

Cost was $219 through Cameras West mail order.

Take a look at the line of cameras Pentax sells.
The ME-Super is a great camera at just about the
price you quoted.
