[net.rec.photo] searching for a good mag

I haven't been reading this group very long but I have
recently taken up semi-serious still photography (I
used to be into Super-8) and have a question.

I have bought a couple of the popular photo mags from the
local news stand and have been thouroughly disgusted. I
know that special interest magazines always abound with
ads and are rather low on the info content scale but this
is absurd. I have lots of hobbies and read lots of related
magazines but I have never seen anything this bad.

My question is, are there any good magazines that keep
you abreast of equipment and techniques? I am not interested
	in the dark room stuff.

	Thanks in advance for replying.

Looking for a good photo mag, good luck. I have had the same problem for
more than 10 years. There was once a glimmer of hope in a publication called
"American Photographer", but it entrophied into a "lets-show-photos-of-naked-
and-nearly-naked-women-that-way-will-get-more-subscribers-and-therefore-more
telephoto-zoom-lens-ads-therefore-more-money-ans-..."

I do remember a publication my the name of "Camera" that was published
overseas (Switzerland I beleive). It had incredable reproductions of photos
which accounted for 80% of the pages. Another 10% was devoted to interviews
or critiques, and the last 10% to technological advancements and how to
information. Try finding it in a large bookstore that specializes in foreign
tabloids.

Hope it helps.
