I have a friend that is looking for a camera. A 35mm SLR with both auto and manual modes. She has been looking at the Minolta 700. Any comments or helpful information. Jeff Walters inuxh!aaron

-------
I used to be a fairly active amateur photographer, using a 35mm Minolta
-- an SRT101 and later an XG7. I had a bundle of lenses which I got
tired of carrying around, and eventully, about 8 years ago, gave up
photogrphy.
Now, I see that there are zoom lenses available which claim to cover the
range of 28-100 mm, and other lens covering different, but equally large
ranges.
With these lenses, I presumably could take most of the pictures I want,
carrying only one or two lenses (en toto).
What I am looking for is advice as to what camera and lenses I should
buy.
The simple automatics don't meet my needs. On the other hand, I am
quite willing to give up some rarely used features -- e.g. the ability
to use a slow film in dark light; I can live with a 3.5 lens.
Any suggestions?
