[net.rec.photo] My Canon F1 eats batteries. Any idea why?

reid@Glacier.ARPA (Brian Reid) (02/24/85)

I have a Canon New F1 with a power winder. About 2 months ago it developed
the nasty habit of burning out its batteries about 1 day after I put them
in. Since the 6V lithium battery costs $5, it is impractical to just install
a new battery every day as I eat my breakfast.

One of these days I will get around to taking it in to a dealer for repair,
but they will just send it off to Canon and I won't get it back for weeks,
and then Canon will probably tell me it's something stupid that I was doing
that I forgot about. Has anybody else ever seen this problem?

[For you long distance diagnosticians, I have checked to make sure that the
metering system is not turned on, and that the light is not turned on,
and I have tried it both with and without the power winder connected.
 It's nothing obvious.]
