[net.rec.photo] Processing Labs

ward@ttidcc.UUCP (Don Ward) (03/28/85)

Several months ago Modern Photography ran an article on the "number"
films (5247, 5294, etc.) along with examples of the work done by
various processing labs. Unstated specifically, but visually obvious
was the fact that Dale Laboratories in Florida did the best job (by
far) on 5247 film (and on 5294 if I remember correctly). After
having shot about 10 rolls of 5247 I can enthusiastically recommend
Dale Labs. The only other lab I have had 5247 work done by has been
Red Tag and then only for reprints. Invariably they screw up the colors
although they are very agreeable about redoing the prints at no charge.
I always shoot 5247 at ASA 100 although most labs will force development
(for a nominal charge) if you shoot at 200. I also always order slides
and am pleased with the quality. I have never had Dale do any C-41
processing for me and would be interested in hearing of anybody's
experiences with Dale in this regard.

I have free Kodak 5247 from Seattle Film Works. Their development cost for
20( yetch! - the free offer was for 20 not 36) slides is $4.60 and they send
back a new roll. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of film ?

I have with them about 4-5 yrs ago; they might have improved since then, but
I didn't like their processing so I stopped. The color was always unbalanced!

I would like to add to this question ... does anyone have any experience with
developing 5247 film? It's my understanding that 5247 has a carbon anti-
halation coating on the back of the film which comes off into the developer.
How do the commercial labs get it off without contaminating the developer?
