A while ago there was a discussion about external battery packs for flash units. I recommended the Quantum pack, and like it a lot. Since I was/am happy with what I have I didn't pay much attention to the discussion. A friend wants the external power of the Quantum, but doesn't want to pay $100+ to get one. What are the alternatives? And what are the costs? -- ---------------- Marty Sasaki net: sasaki@harvard.{arpa,uucp} Havard University Science Center phone: 617-495-1270 One Oxford Street Cambridge, MA 02138

I don't know much about the product, but Tim Simon (the bringer of the Simon slide viewer) has a lead acid battery pack known as the "Supercharger" The pack has a hi and low power output, Simon claims the higher one is designed specifically for his high power "Superflash" and may damage other units. The super output gives a claimed 4 manual flashes/second. The normal output gives a claimed 1000 flashes with a Vivitar 283 on manual. The "Supercharger" has a 5 segment LED power indicator, built-in light source, flash mount (cold shoe) on top and tripod socket on bottom. No price information. -r-
