From: zhang (Yuankai Zhang) I'm quite happy with my Vivitar Series I 28-90/2.8 lens and Nikon FE2 body. It's the time for me to consider buying a 70-210 zoom. Since the prices for Vivitar 70-210/F2.8,4 listed on ads have been dropped alot, I'm seriously considering. People on this netland have been hearing quite a lot good things about Vivitar Series I 2.8-90/2.8 zoom lens, but few about 70-210/2.8,4. I'd like to ask those of you who own a 70-210/2.8,4 lens what is your comments, positive and negative. If I get enough responses, I will summarize them and post to the net. Here are some listed prices: $149 47 Street Photo, NYC; $139 Executive, NYC. (They don't mention mounts, I guess there are extra costs for Nikon, Canon, and so on.) Yuankai Zhang zhang@cornell

Consumer Reports just did an article on zoom lenses in this focal length range. It compares several different brands. As far as I know it's still on the news stands. With the exception of its weight the Vivitar was rated as one of the best. It was considered better than all of the camera maker zooms with the exception of one Nikkor lens. There was another off brand lens rated as the best buy, but I forget who makes it. The Vivitar is the fastest zoom in its range, but Consumer Reports to think that the extra weight required to do this is too much. It all depends on what you're willing to lug around. -- ------------------------------ Chuck Ferrara @ U. Va.
